A combination of Astrium satellite imagery and IHS Maritime shipping data reveals that a consignment of tanks was almost certainly transported from the Ukrainian port of Oktyabrsk to Ethiopia in September.
Astrium imagery taken on 24 August shows 16 main battle tanks (MBTs) and other military equipment waiting to be loaded at Otkyabrsk: a specialist terminal that is used for Russian and Ukrainian arms exports.
Analysis of ship movements strongly suggests the tanks were loaded on to the roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) cargo ship Ocean Power (IMO: 9179842), which arrived two days later, left on 7 September and headed to Djibouti without making further port calls.
